5th Annual SPS Maker Faire

5th Annual SPS Maker Faire is on Friday, January 31 from 8:30AM – 3:25PM

Join us for a unique day inspired by the ever-growing Maker Movement…

A Maker Faire features innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft–it is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. It’s a venue for makers to show examples of their work and interact with others about it. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) is often invisible in our communities, taking place in shops, garages and on kitchen tables. It’s typically out of the spotlight of traditional art or science or craft events. Maker Faire makes visible these projects and ideas that we don’t encounter every day.

St. Peter’s School continues to strive toward unique and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. In this, we also seek to instill in our students the same desire to engage in inventive strategies beyond the walls of our school. By exposing our students to the Maker Faire program, it is our hope that they will better understand, and see first hand, how these skills are used in multiple fields of work.

At the Maker Faire, the Fifth through Eighth grade students are offered a full day of workshops and informational sessions presented by local makers. Fourth grade students will participate in a half day of these workshops. This year, we look forward to hosting architects, engineers, musicians, artists, fashion designers, costume designers, interior designers, authors, illustrators, hair stylists, builders, contractors, chefs, bakers, gamers, set designers, makeup artists, producers, directors, photographers, framers, and graphic designers, among others. In these small-group settings, the makers will engage with the students, teach them about what they do in their profession, and allow time for questions regarding their field.

Preschool through Fourth Grade students will take part in a special Maker-inspired project led by our STEAM and Art Departments throughout the day, becoming mini-Makers themselves.

If you, or someone you know, feels passionate about sharing your work and story with our students, please email our Director of the Arts, Jenny Staple (jstaple@st-peters-school.org) so we can provide you with more information.
