St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 170 students in the center of Philadelphia for over 190 years. We are seeking an engaging full-time Humanities teacher (Grades 6-8) who has experience planning and implementing an integrated English and Social Studies curriculum, is committed to academic excellence and teaching with diversity and inclusion in mind, and who understands the social and emotional growth and development of young children. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively as a team with the upper grade (6-8) faculty to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom. This person will also be the advisor for the Eighth Grade.
The Humanities teacher promotes critical thinking, responsible scholarship, and creative expression within an imaginative thematic curriculum. In a seminar setting with extended periods each week, we model a learning environment framed on the values of inquiry, mutual respect, and cooperative support. The program emphasizes the content and skills necessary for students to find intellectual success through practice in reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening. Research skills are developed and each unit dives deeply into primary source documentation, creative and non-fiction writing.

Administrative Assistants typically are the hub of a school office. They know where things are, how to get things done and who can help with particular tasks and projects. They disseminate information to parents, staff and students, schedule meetings, maintain records and monitor student needs, parent communication, and program activities. They are a support person for families, students and faculty. The Administrative Assistant is the go-to person for many tasks and is relied on heavily by others. As a result, they must be adept at dealing with and accommodating a variety of people and personality types – parents, children, and teachers.
This role serves two capacities. The first includes organization and management of the front desk area. This person is the face of the school, responsible for answering phones, meeting visitors and providing information to all who arrive at the front desk. The second is a coordinator of the operations support for the School. Working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations as well as the maintenance and cleaning staff, the role is a combination of front desk maintenance and behind the scenes administrative support to keep the school functioning effectively.
Duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:
Maintains the safety and security of the Lombard Street doors including visitor, student and parent arrivals
Answers phones from main school number
Receives mail and packages and coordinates the mailroom.
Supervises and schedules housekeeping staff
Manages vendors and service providers on campus
Maintains supplies and necessary materials for offices and classrooms
Liaisons with Non-Public school staff and processes state and vendor accounts
Orders teacher materials, supplies annually and throughout the year as needed
Coordinates state funds and ancillary accounts for purchase of materials, services and supplies
Coordinates the NPIS system
Support the Business Office with logistics and clerical support
Coordinates staff time off request process
Provides first aid support as a backup when School Nurse is unavailable
Support the Administration with Graduation including ordering and event planning
Supports the Director of Secondary School placement with clerical needs through process
Manages substitute teaching assignments and new substitute candidate onboarding
Manages transportation for athletics, field trips and School district of Philadelphia transportation
Organizes attendance and database management on Veracross
Uploads Map Growth/testing results on to the student files on Veracross
Manages parent volunteer and substitute clearance process
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School

REACH Instructors are an extension of St. Peter's School teachers and have the same expectations as everyone in our community. Their role is supervisory and involves planning programs and organizing activities for indoor and outdoor play for students of all ages. The engagement with the students includes but is not limited to, homework assistance, imaginative play, gross motor development, theme-based experiences, and STEM/technology when appropriate.
Instructors should be prepared to engage with the students, refrain from social media and usage of phones, and model appropriate behavior for all in the community. This position is part-time throughout the academic year (September through mid-June) with a flat pay of $18 per hour. Hours are Monday - Friday, 2:30-5:30 PM, with opportunities for full-day work during days off of school or vacations/breaks in the school calendar. Instructors should be self-motivated, energetic, reliable, and responsible, with previous experience working with children--preferably in an educational setting. They should be engaging, adaptable, and professional with staff and parents and have a clear passion for honing their educational skills. Orientation and onboarding will occur during the last week of August or early September. Clearances and some training are included and will be outlined each fall.
Additionally, the Instructor should be knowledgeable of student needs and age-appropriate interactions. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and an interest in seeing students and adults working collaboratively. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important. Also responsible for other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Expressing a positive attitude, interest in personal development, ability to work collaboratively on a team, ability to receive and implement feedback, maintaining flexibility, and demonstrating a willingness to adapt throughout the year are important.
