Launched in 2024, our Strategic Plan serves as a roadmap to guide us into the future with purpose, clarity, and care.
Developed with Bloom Planning and in partnership with faculty, families, trustees, and community members, the plan focuses on five key pathways: Students, Community, Teachers, Our City, and Facilities. Each pathway outlines a series of initiatives that will strengthen our academic program, deepen our community connections, and ensure our spaces and resources meet the needs of today’s learners.
This plan reflects not only where we are now, but where we are headed. We invite you to explore the work we’ve already begun and the vision that will carry SPS forward.
Strategic Plan
Building on Strength. Planning for Possibility.
-
Students are at the center of what we do. Our students grow and develop through experiences with their classmates, their teachers, the curriculum, and the city itself. The St. Peter’s School (SPS) preschool to 8th grade experience honors the richness of childhood and instills in students an ethos of service to others and an authentic understanding of themselves and their communities. SPS nurtures students to be their best selves. Our graduates are well prepared for high school and ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
St. Peter’s is a community connected to one another. In a joyful environment, our students smile, play, and energetically learn together. Our students, families, and staff, representing the diversity of our city, thrive at SPS, finding genuine ways to engage with one another, while actively contributing to a nurturing culture that ensures we help support our students to be their best selves. SPS knows and values our students and our families.
St. Peter’s teachers are excellent. The relationships our teachers develop with our students and families represent the very essence of who we are. With a deep understanding of content and process, our teachers personalize the education of each child and, most importantly, understand each child’s needs. The School supports our dedicated, enthusiastic, and mission-driven community of educators as they demonstrate their forward thinking approach to education.
Our city is our classroom. The city of Philadelphia, filled with engaging organizations and partnership opportunities, allows SPS to intentionally individualize each child’s experience. The city provides the School with projects and experiences, music and art education, service opportunities, athletics, and tradition and innovation. These features encourage each student to explore their strengths as a learner and a citizen and provide a balance of academic challenge and student support.
The St. Peter’s campus facilities match the excellence of our community. Our learning environments are maximized to deliver outstanding preschool to 8th grade experiences. Prioritizing thoughtful classroom design, dynamic shared spaces, and access to athletic-use facilities, our spaces exemplify our culture. The facilities reflect an awareness of our students’ needs while providing welcoming and attractive spaces and a positive, safe connection to the city we live in.
Pathway 1: Students
SPS students are encouraged to challenge themselves academically, while leaning into their social and emotional development. The school fosters a culture that promotes self-confidence, self-advocacy, and self-awareness by helping students shape their understanding of their place in the community and the world.
Initiatives:
1.1 Reinforcing Student Well-Being & Personal Development from Preschool-8th Grade
1.2 SPS PS-8th Grade Student Academic Trajectory
1.3 SPS PS-8th Grade Student Pathway to Independence
1.4 Personalized Student Profile
-
This year, we set out to more clearly define and support the whole arc of a student’s journey at SPS, from Preschool through 8th Grade. We began by mapping academic benchmarks across grade levels, starting with math and expanding into literacy and the arts. The goal: to ensure every child experiences growth that is purposeful, connected, and well-supported.
To achieve this, we brought together learning specialists and classroom teachers to better align academic and emotional supports, ensuring no student slips through the cracks and that families and teachers are equipped with clear strategies and next steps.
We continue to develop personalized student profiles that integrate key information about academic progress, social-emotional development, and learning styles. This effort builds on the strong foundation laid by our upper-grade science teacher, Jenny Soriano, who has students build and manage their own digital portfolios—empowering them to take ownership of their learning.
Together, these steps are helping us create a more intentional and cohesive experience, so every SPS student can thrive today and be prepared for what’s next.
Pathway 2: Community
SPS is committed to strengthening trust among our community members and maintaining a community that supports and mutually respects our students, teachers, and families. The SPS community values diversity and inclusivity to ensure that students, teachers, and families are given genuine opportunities to connect academically and socially for a lifetime.
Initiatives:
2.1 Develop & Manage a Streamlined Communications Platform
2.2 Structure of Regular Personalized Teacher & Parent Communication
2.3 Pathways of Engagement for Families
2.4 Promotion of SPS – Internally
2.5 Promotion of SPS – Externally

Pathway 3: Teachers
SPS values our teachers. They are encouraged to grow and learn through a variety of opportunities both on and off campus. SPS values the interpersonal relationships among staff and demonstrates this by dedicating time for staff to collaborate during the school day. SPS believes in supporting our teachers with competitive salary and benefit packages.
Initiatives:
3.1 Personalized Teacher Development & Recognition
3.2 Intentional Hiring Processes to Support Diversity
3.3 Curricular Continuity & Support
3.4 Competitive Salary & Benefits Packages
3.5 Teacher Collaboration through Cohorts
-
Supporting and empowering our faculty remains a top priority. This year, we focused on enhancing professional development opportunities aligned with our Strategic Plan goals. Teachers engaged in workshops and collaborative sessions designed to deepen their content knowledge and expand their instructional strategies.
We also worked to strengthen internal communication channels among staff, fostering more collaboration and shared resources across grade levels and disciplines.
By investing in our teachers’ growth and providing them with meaningful support, we are building a stronger foundation for student success and a vibrant learning environment at SPS.
Pathway 4: City
The city of Philadelphia becomes an integral part of our preschool to 8th grade academic programs. Building partnerships, actively participating in opportunities to connect to organizations, and bringing our students to the city and the city to our students are meaningful ways the school engages and builds culture.
Initiatives:
4.1 Growing through Service to Our City
4.2 Intentional Progression of PS-8th Grade Academic Partnerships
4.3 Increasing REACH Enrichment Partnerships
-
St. Peter’s School continues to deepen its connection with Philadelphia and the vibrant community around us. This year, we advanced our City Curriculum by strengthening partnerships with local organizations and incorporating real-world learning experiences that bring the city’s history, culture, and diversity into the classroom.
We’ve also expanded opportunities for students to engage in service learning projects and community-based activities, helping them develop a strong sense of civic responsibility and awareness.
Through these efforts, SPS students are growing into thoughtful citizens who understand and appreciate the city they call home.
Pathway 5: Facilities
Our facilities are an important aspect of our culture. They provide meaningful opportunities to learn and connect. Our spaces are purposeful; they inspire our community and define an SPS education.
Initiatives:
4.1 Ten-Year Campus Facilities Plan
4.2 Providing Facilities for Athletics & Arts
4.3 Physical Safety & Accessibility
-
A significant focus this year has been on planning for the future of our campus. After an earlier collaborative building project with St. Peter’s Church did not move forward, our Buildings & Grounds Committee pivoted to explore new possibilities for expanding and enhancing our existing facilities.
We are excited to announce plans for a transformative building project on our current campus. This includes a dedicated gymnasium—fulfilling a longtime community goal—a rooftop play area to maximize urban space, and bringing our arts classrooms under one roof. Importantly, the project will add an elevator, making our building fully accessible and ADA-compliant.
These steps position SPS to meet the evolving needs of our students and community well into the future.
